Six die in Abia accident as speeding car crashes into traders, motorcyclists
Six Killed in Abia State Car Crash
ISIALA SOUTH, Abia State — A tragic accident on Tuesday claimed the lives of six individuals when a speeding black Toyota struck a group of traders and motorcyclists at Umuikaa Junction along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
In addition to the fatalities, seven others sustained injuries of varying severity, and six motorcycles were damaged in the collision.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling from the direction of Umuahia when it lost control and crashed into the group, which included many female traders. The vehicle also collided with commercial motorcycle operators who had gathered at the junction before ultimately crashing into a nearby building.
The bodies of the deceased have been transported to a local mortuary, while the injured were promptly taken to a hospital for urgent medical care.
Although the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined by authorities, residents have speculated that excessive speed or brake failure may have contributed to the incident.
C.C. Ngozi Ezeoma, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abia State, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. “Yes, it happened at Umuikaa junction,” she said.
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
