Suspected bandits kill six farmers in fresh attack on Kaduna community

Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union Condemns Killings of Farmers

The Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has condemned the recent killings of six farmers by armed assailants in the Kujijiro farmlands of Kuyello District. The incident occurred on June 22, 2026, sparking outrage and concern within the local community.

Dr. Isah Muhammad, chairman of BEPU, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing deep sorrow over the attack. He noted that the victims were engaged in their regular farming activities when they were brutally ambushed.

“This tragic incident has once again plunged the Birnin Gwari community into a state of grief and fear,” Dr. Muhammad stated. He highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by Kuyello and surrounding areas, which have experienced recurrent violence despite efforts to restore peace.

Dr. Muhammad emphasized that the continued aggression against farmers jeopardizes the stability that the community has worked hard to maintain. He called for unity among the different regions of Birnin Gwari, asserting that the struggles of one area resonate throughout the emirate.

“As long as any part of Birnin Gwari remains unsafe, true peace cannot be achieved,” he added. He voiced concerns that if immediate actions are not taken to quell these attacks, many farmers might hesitate to return to their fields. This could exacerbate food production issues, inflate prices, and contribute to economic hardship throughout Kaduna State and beyond.

The union urged both the Federal Government and the Kaduna State authorities to implement effective measures to dismantle the criminal networks disrupting public safety. Additionally, BEPU called on the Minister of Defence, the National Security Adviser, and relevant security agencies to enhance operations in the Kuyello area to ensure citizens can pursue their daily activities without fear.

The statement also appealed for increased attention to security challenges in Eastern Birnin Gwari, advocating for a stronger law enforcement presence to protect lives and property.

“Our hearts go out to the families of those lost in this tragic event,” the union said, offering prayers for the deceased and strength for their families.

BEPU encouraged the residents of Birnin Gwari, particularly farmers, to remain calm and collaborative, emphasizing the importance of cooperating with security services to address the ongoing insecurity. The union reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with government and security stakeholders to prevent a return to the violence and instability of the past.
