Suspected Vandal Electrocuted in Jigawa State
RINGIM, Jigawa State — A suspected electric cable vandal was electrocuted on Saturday in the Ringim Local Government Area.
According to a local resident, the individual was attempting to damage an electric cable when power was unexpectedly restored, leading to the electrocution. The resident reported that the suspect died instantly at the scene.
The incident occurred in Sintilmawa village, along the Ringim-Dutse road, where authorities later found the body alongside various tools.
Police spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the details in a statement released Sunday morning. He noted that a distress call was received around 9 a.m. on July 31, reporting a body lying motionless along the Ringim-Sintilmawa road.
Responding to the report, a patrol team arrived and observed burns on the victim’s hands, chest, and pelvic area. SP Shiisu indicated that gloves, a hacksaw, and several sacks were found at the scene, suggesting the suspect was attempting to vandalize the cable when he was electrocuted.
The body was transported to the hospital, where medical staff confirmed the individual’s death. Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, and the case remains under investigation. The body has been placed in the mortuary at the Ringim General Hospital.
