Suspected herdsmen kill three, injure others in fresh Benue attack

Attack on Benue Community Leaves Three Dead, Several Injured

Abaushwa, Benue State — At least three individuals were killed and several others injured in an attack by suspected armed herdsmen in the Abaushwa community of the Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area, late Monday night.

The assault occurred around 11:30 PM when the attackers allegedly invaded the community, located near Gbajimba, the headquarters of Guma LGA. Security sources reported that gunfire erupted as assailants targeted residents, causing widespread panic.

Among the deceased were a father and his two children, who were reportedly caught in the violence. Local officials condemned the attack, with Hon. Maurice Orwough, Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, describing the incident as unacceptable.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Personal Assistant for Communication and Strategy, Ernest Tortiv, Orwough expressed condolences to the families affected, stating, “The unfortunate attack claimed the lives of innocent people, left many others injured, and caused fear and destruction in the community.”

Orwough noted that security personnel had been deployed to the area to restore order and protect residents. He urged community members to collaborate with security agencies and provide pertinent information to help address local insecurity.

As of now, the Benue State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, indicated that he would address inquiries related to the attack, but had not provided further details at the time of this report.
