Tension as suspected poisoning kills nine cattle in Plateau

Nine Cattle Confirmed Dead After Suspected Poisoning in Plateau State
BARKIN LADI, Plateau State — Nine cattle have died, and three others are in critical condition following a suspected poisoning incident in Rakum village, Kassa District. The event has raised alarms among local residents regarding potential deliberate contamination of grazing areas.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported on social media that troops from Sector 4 of Operation Safe Haven responded to the situation around 4:25 p.m. on April 18. They received information regarding cattle belonging to Dauda Jalo, which had fallen ill and died under suspicious circumstances.
Upon arrival, the troops discovered nine cattle that had already perished, with three more still struggling for survival. Authorities believe the animals may have grazed on a poisonous substance found in local farmlands.
Residents are increasingly concerned that this incident could escalate tensions within the community. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the cause of death and to identify any individuals responsible for the suspected poisoning.
