Terrorists demand N300m after N40m ransom payment for kidnapped INEC Commissioner

Terrorists have demanded an additional 300 million naira ransom from the family of Ahmed Mohammed, the Permanent Commissioner of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, nearly nine months after his abduction.

The family had previously secured his release by paying 40 million naira to the kidnappers. Mohammed was abducted on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa-Ibbi Road in the Borgu Local Government Area while en route to Minna for official duties related to the local government elections scheduled for November 1, 2025.

A family member, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, reported that the kidnappers reached out again on Monday to inquire if the family was prepared to meet the new ransom demand.

“They are requesting an additional 300 million naira for his release. We have informed them that we cannot raise this amount,” the family member stated. “They call almost every day. It was only yesterday that they did not call. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to assist us in securing his release. He was kidnapped while engaged in official duties for the Niger State Government.”
