Bauchi State Police arrested two suspected thugs and rescued three victims following an attack in Bununu Town, located in the Ningi Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 17, 2026, when police officers on routine patrol observed a group attacking three male residents, aged 30, 31, and 28. The victims sustained injuries to their heads and other parts of their bodies during the altercation.
The police intervened quickly, leading to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Ibrahim Hassan, 23, and Bilal Hassan, 22, both from Bununu Town. Reports indicate that other members of the group fled the scene upon the officers’ arrival.
Authorities recovered a sharp knife and a locally known sharp-edged animal horn, referred to as a “kaho,” from the apprehended suspects.
“The timely intervention of the police patrol team led to the arrest of two of the attackers, while other members of the gang fled the scene,” said a statement from the police, signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib.
The injured victims were transported to General Hospital, Bununu, for medical treatment and are currently reported to be in stable condition. During questioning, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the incident, prompting the police to initiate a thorough investigation.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered an extensive inquiry aimed at prosecuting the suspects in court. He emphasized that the command would not tolerate thuggery, hooliganism, or any violent behavior that jeopardizes public safety.
“The Command will not condone any act of thuggery, hooliganism, or violent conduct capable of threatening public peace,” Aliyu asserted.
In the aftermath of the attack, the police indicated that the situation in Bununu has stabilized. Additional personnel have been deployed to enhance security, monitor developments, and prevent any further unrest. The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest station.
