Three sisters drown as boat capsizes at Tiga Dam in Kano


Three girls from the same family died Saturday afternoon when the boat they were in capsized at Tiga Dam in the Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State. Relatives reported that the incident occurred around 2:00 p.m.

The deceased have been identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu, and Bilkisu, commonly known as Amira, all residents of the Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community.

Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, chairman of the Tudunwada Local Government Area and chairperson of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kano State, confirmed the tragedy in a statement.

In her remarks, she extended condolences to the families of the deceased and the Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over this painful incident,” she said. Soja also offered prayers for the deceased, asking for divine mercy and strength for their families.

At the time of this report, there had been no official statement from the Kano State Police Command or the Kano State Fire Service regarding the incident, which falls under their jurisdiction for emergency rescue operations.
