ABUJA—President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences on Saturday following the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who was reportedly killed while in the custody of bandits in Katsina State.
In a statement from the State House, Tinubu conveyed his “shock and sadness” over the incident, highlighting it as a tragic reminder of the ongoing security challenges in certain regions of Nigeria.
“General Abubakar, who had a distinguished career in the military, retired a few years ago. He was intercepted and abducted by armed men while traveling to his hometown,” the statement read.
The presidency further disclosed that Abubakar’s wife was also taken captive during the incident and remains with the abductors, raising public concern over their safety.
The circumstances surrounding Abubakar’s death underscore the persistent issues of insecurity impacting various parts of the country.
