Transfer: ‘I’m sad’ – Club Brugge manager, Leko laments as star player joins Arsenal

Club Brugge Manager Saddened by Tzolis Transfer to Arsenal

Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has expressed regret over the impending transfer of star forward Christos Tzolis to Arsenal. Reports suggest the Gunners are set to acquire the 24-year-old Greek international for approximately £33.8 million.

Leko confirmed Tzolis’s departure, noting his absence during Club Brugge’s recent 3-2 loss to Heerenveen in a pre-season friendly held on July 17. The manager conveyed his disappointment in losing a key player but also expressed confidence in Tzolis’s potential success in the Premier League.

“He has been an exceptional player for us,” Leko stated. He highlighted Tzolis’s dedication during training and his significant development while with the club.

Leko believes Tzolis will have ample opportunities to demonstrate his skills at Arsenal, both in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. “I am very happy for him, though sad for us, losing a top player,” he said. “He was always the first to arrive at training and the last to leave. His commitment was exemplary, and it has led him to one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”

The manager also stressed the positive impact of Tzolis’s journey on younger players, emphasizing the importance of hard work in football.

Tzolis joined Club Brugge in 2024 for a reported fee of €6 million from Norwich City. During his time with the Belgian club, he established himself as a standout player, scoring 43 goals and providing 45 assists in 108 matches. His impressive performance during the 2025-26 season included 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 appearances.
