Troops foil ambush after IED attack in Borno

Troops Repel Terrorist Ambush in Borno State

Combined forces of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a terrorist ambush on July 4, around 1 p.m., after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated along the Damboa–Kumala road in Borno State.

Security sources reported that troops from the 19 Battalion (Mechanised), 25 Brigade Garrison, were escorting a convoy of 63 civilian vehicles to Kumala when the IED exploded. The convoy was traveling on a primary supply route connecting Damboa, Bulabulin, and Kumala.

Following the detonation, suspected terrorists launched an ambush approximately two kilometers from the blast site. The troops swiftly returned fire and managed to overpower the assailants, forcing them to retreat.

While the explosion caused damage to the tyres of two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, no injuries were reported among soldiers or civilians.

The affected tyres were replaced at the scene, enabling the troops to complete their mission successfully. The convoy ultimately escorted 71 civilian vehicles back from Kumala to Damboa.

Military sources emphasized that the successful operation underscores the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to maintaining key supply routes and ensuring the safety of civilian travel amid ongoing terrorist threats in northeast Nigeria.
