Troops foil ransom exchange, rescue kidnapped woman in Kebbi
KEBBI STATE, Nigeria — Troops from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully intercepted a planned ransom exchange and rescued a kidnapped woman during an operation in Kebbi State on August 26, 2026.
Military officials reported that the rescue was initiated following credible intelligence indicating that terrorists intended to collect a ransom for the woman abducted from her farm. Acting swiftly on this information, troops engaged in counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations mobilized to thwart the exchange.
As the military units closed in, the terrorists attempted to confront the advancing troops but were quickly outmatched by superior firepower. The clash compelled the criminals to flee, leading them to abandon their hostage.
The woman, who was found unharmed, was safely evacuated and later reunited with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
In addition to the rescue, troops conducted a thorough search of the area to secure the withdrawal route of the fleeing terrorists, ensuring no further threats remained before returning to base.
Separately, military forces carried out routine clearance and patrol operations in Ngaski Local Government Area, which were completed without incident. These patrols reinforce the troops’ commitment to denying terrorists and other criminal elements any freedom of action within their operational zones.
