Troops raid terrorist hideout, arrest five suspected bandit associates in Taraba
Troops from the Joint Task Force, engaged in Operation WHIRL STROKE, conducted a raid on a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, located in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, apprehending five individuals believed to be affiliates of a known bandit in the region.
The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday, September 3, 2026, following reliable intelligence received by the troops around 12:30 a.m. regarding the hideout’s location.
According to a statement from Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, acting Media Information Officer at the Joint Task Force Headquarters, personnel from Sector 1, in conjunction with troops from Sector 3, mobilized rapidly and executed a targeted raid on the identified site.
“Unfortunately, the suspected terrorists fled the area prior to the troops’ arrival, likely having received advance warning from informants about the impending operation,” the statement noted.
Following the raid, the forces conducted an extensive search of the area, resulting in the arrest of five individuals suspected of being linked to the fleeing bandit.
Recovered items during the operation included two AK-47 rifle magazines, 46 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a woodland camouflage jacket, a jungle hat, four charm vests, and various other charms.
The military indicated that the arrests and recoveries provided valuable leads to further assist in identifying and capturing additional members of the criminal group.
Operation WHIRL STROKE reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal actors operating within its designated area until peace and security are fully restored.
The task force also encouraged residents of Taraba State and surrounding areas to remain vigilant and report timely, credible information to security agencies. Public cooperation and vigilance were emphasized as vital components in dismantling criminal networks and ensuring community safety throughout the region.
