Troops repel ISWAP attack, recover camcorder linked to foreign terror facilitators in Borno

Troops Repel ISWAP Infiltration Attempt in Borno State
KUKAWA, Nigeria — Soldiers from the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully thwarted a coordinated attempt by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists to infiltrate the Cross Kauwa area in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State.
During the operation, troops inflicted significant casualties on the attackers and recovered a camcorder containing materials that potentially link the action to external terrorist facilitators. This information was released by security expert Zagazola Makama in a post on X.
The infiltration attempt occurred on Saturday night when a group of insurgents sought to breach the military’s defensive position. Troops from the 19 Brigade, part of Sector 3, detected the advancing insurgents early and responded effectively, compelling the attackers to retreat.
Makama reported that the terrorists intended to steal cholera-related medical supplies from the local community. This intent comes amid rising concerns over a cholera outbreak affecting ISWAP camps in the Lake Chad region. Previous intelligence has indicated that the group has executed infected fighters to prevent the spread of the disease.
In the aftermath of the skirmish, military personnel recovered a Sony camcorder, several rounds of PKT and 7.62mm Special ammunition, along with terrorist uniforms and various combat items. Military intelligence officials noted that preliminary forensic examinations of the camcorder revealed operational videos and propaganda material.
The most recent footage allegedly indicated that the operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders, assisted by three foreign facilitators. Among those identified were a Palestinian Arab known as Abu Ishaq, who is believed to serve as the group’s chief trainer, a Moroccan named Abu Thaiba, who purportedly acts as a medical doctor within the network, and an unidentified Arab operative whose identity is still under investigation.
