Truck crashes into house in Niger, kills housewife, grandson

Truck Crash Claims Two Lives Near Suleja
A truck crashed into a residence in Make, a community on the outskirts of Suleja in Niger State, early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of a housewife and her ten-year-old grandson.
According to local sources, the truck driver lost control after the vehicle’s brakes failed. The driver, who had been traveling from the Minna area towards Kaduna around 7 a.m., reportedly exited the truck, leaving his assistant behind at the wheel.
Witnesses confirmed that the truck collided with the home, killing Maryam Shuaibu and her grandson. Another family member sustained injuries during the incident.
This crash marks the fourth time a moving vehicle has struck this particular residence, underscoring concerns about the poor condition of the federal highway in the area.
In response to the incident, local youths blocked the Suleja-Minna Road and the route leading to Dikko Junction, linking the region to the Abuja-Kaduna highway. Their protest aimed to highlight grievances regarding the lack of compensation for victims’ families and property owners affected by previous accidents. The blockade resulted in significant traffic congestion extending into Suleja town and neighboring communities.
Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, the Commissioner for Transport, led a delegation from the Niger State government and urged the protesters to reopen the highway by 3 p.m.
The victims were subsequently buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Suleja’s Police Area Commander, ACP Muhammad Sani Musa, confirmed the incident upon inquiry.
