U-17 WWCQ: Busari reacts to Flamingos’ victory over Benin

Flamingos Secure Qualification for 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
LOME, Togo — Akeem Busari, head coach of the Flamingos, expressed his pride following his team’s successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Nigeria defeated the Young Amazons 5-3 in the second leg of their final round qualifying match at the Stade de Kegue on Saturday.
With this victory, the Flamingos advanced with an aggregate score of 8-5, having previously won the first leg 3-2 at home.
In his post-match comments, Busari noted the challenges posed by the Young Amazons. “From day one, when we played the first leg, it was not an easy match. They showed character and proved difficult to beat,” he said. “There will always be mistakes in the game, which we capitalized on. They are a very good side.”
Busari attributed his team’s success to their strategy, stating, “We were able to subdue them because we played to our own strength. Our style was difficult for them as we employed man-marking instead of zonal marking.”
