UFC Event at White House Celebrates 250th Anniversary and Trump’s Milestone Birthday

Construction crews are currently building a temporary octagon-shaped cage on the South Lawn of the White House in preparation for a high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event. Scheduled for June 14, the bout coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States and President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

Renderings released online illustrate the planned setup, which includes a wire-mesh cage encircled by a vibrant red, white, and blue stage. An imposing arch adorned with stars and stripes will tower over the arena, complemented by large screens displaying live fight coverage.

To accommodate attendees, thousands of temporary seats will be arranged around the cage, with designated ringside space for a full marching band that will enhance the atmosphere with live music.

This UFC event is part of a broader series of celebrations for the semiquincentennial marking the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Other festivities planned include an IndyCar race near the White House and the Great American State Fair at the National Mall.

President Trump stated that the UFC venue is designed to host “a 5,000-seat arena right outside the front door of the White House.”

Additionally, large screens will broadcast the fight in a park at the nearby Ellipse, with UFC officials expecting to distribute as many as 85,000 free tickets to accommodate spectators at both locations. “I have never seen anybody want anything so much as people want those tickets,” Trump remarked recently, expressing confidence in the event’s popularity.

The fight card, however, has received mixed reviews online, with only two championship bouts featured. Brazil’s Alex Pereira will face France’s Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title, while Spanish-Georgian lightweight champion Ilia Topuria will contend against interim champion Justin Gaethje, who is one of two Americans currently holding titles in the UFC’s roster of 11 championship belts.

This octagon project follows a series of construction initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration, which has included modifications to the Rose Garden and renovations of several White House spaces. Future plans also indicate a repainting of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and the construction of a 250-foot arch at the Lincoln Memorial, where weigh-ins for the UFC fight are slated to occur.
