Umahi under fire over personal physiotherapist, Mary Habila’s mysterious death

Nigerian Minister of Works Faces Scrutiny Following Physiotherapist’s Death

NIGERIA — Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, is facing significant scrutiny after the death of his personal physiotherapist, Mary Habila, which has raised controversial questions.

Francis Nweze, the Senior Special Assistant to Umahi, confirmed Habila’s passing in a statement released Saturday. Habila and another physiotherapist, Anita Baski, had been employed by the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Uburu and were seconded to the Federal Ministry of Works for the past three years.

In response to Habila’s death, Umahi has called for an autopsy to determine the cause. However, reports indicate that Habila’s family has declined this recommendation amid growing controversy surrounding the circumstances of her demise.

“Following confirmation of Miss Habila’s passing, the Honourable Minister personally received her parents, conveyed his sincere condolences, and advised that an autopsy be conducted to scientifically establish the exact cause of death,” the statement read. “At the time, however, the family declined the recommendation.”

Allegations have emerged suggesting that Habila died under questionable circumstances at Umahi’s residence.

As of this report, the Nigerian police have not made any official comments regarding the incident.
