Wike waives C-of-O fees for Nigerian Law School, orders urgent upgrades

FCT Minister Waives Certificate of Occupancy Fees for Law School

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the removal of fees for the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) associated with the Nigerian Law School campus in Bwari, Abuja.

Wike made the announcement during a meeting with the school’s management, emphasizing the urgent need to address the lack of proper land documentation for the institution since its relocation to Bwari. He stated, “We are going to waive all the processing fees,” and instructed officials to complete the C of O within one week.

The minister highlighted the importance of formalizing land ownership to rectify what he termed an irregular situation. In addition to land issues, Wike approved several infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the school’s facilities, including staff housing, student hostels, and an auditorium.

Ten staff housing units have already been completed and are slated for commissioning during the president’s third-anniversary events. Plans for an additional ten units have also been approved. To alleviate overcrowding, work is currently underway on new male and female hostels.

Wike expressed concern over delays in the auditorium project despite the release of funds and instructed closer monitoring of the contractors involved. He also encouraged the law school to collaborate with FCTA legal officials to explore digital administrative solutions.

The minister underscored that these initiatives are part of broader efforts to bolster legal education under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating, “Anything we can do to help our children, we are willing to do that.”

Earlier, Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote, the director-general of the law school, commended the FCT minister for his developmental efforts while outlining ongoing infrastructure challenges faced by the institution.
