Worker Rescued Following Wall Collapse in Kano
KANO — A worker was rescued alive after a fencing wall collapsed during demolition work at Kofar Mata Zango in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area on Sunday morning.
The incident was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service, which issued a statement through its Public Relations Officer, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, at approximately 8:49 a.m., Naziru Ahmad called the Fire Service to report the collapse of a wall at the demolition site. Firefighters from the Service Headquarters were promptly dispatched to the location, where they found that a residential structure measuring about 30 by 20 feet was undergoing demolition.
The Fire Service explained that the wall’s instability became apparent as workers were dismantling it. During the incident, one worker, Sadiq Ahmad, attempted to escape but was trapped when the wall fell.
Rescue teams quickly began operations and successfully extricated Ahmad from the rubble. He was subsequently transported to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for treatment and was later reunited with his brother, Naziru.
The Fire Service noted that an investigation into the cause of the collapse is ongoing. They also urged residents to adhere to safety measures during demolition and construction activities to prevent future incidents.
