Trump Condemns Attack on Saudi Arabia as U.S. Considers Involvement

Published on October 11, 2026

Saudi Arabia has accused Yemen’s Houthi rebels of launching a series of attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals and left 300 others injured at Riyadh International Airport this week. The Saudi civil aviation authority confirmed that among the victims were four Saudi nationals, along with individuals from Bangladesh, the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt.

This incident marks the deadliest attack on Saudi soil in over a decade, occurring amid a resurgence of violence in Yemen, where the Houthis are engaged in a conflict with forces aligned with the internationally recognized Yemeni government. Saudi Arabia has intensified its air campaign against the Houthis to support ground operations aimed at regaining control over the country.

U.S. Reaction
U.S. President Donald Trump has labeled the Houthi attack as “terrible” and announced plans to discuss the situation with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. Trump indicated that the United States is evaluating the possibility of joining the conflict against the Houthis, stating, “We may. We’re gonna look at it. We just found out about the recent attack, so we’ll make a decision. We’ll move very quickly.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also commented on the incident, noting the death of an American citizen in the strike and urging an end to “these reprehensible attacks.” He expressed condolences to the victims and their families in a post on X.

Global Responses
The United Nations responded through special envoy Hans Grundberg, who condemned the attacks as a “grave escalation” that threatens regional security and complicates peace efforts in Yemen.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the Houthi attacks, characterizing them as a “flagrant violation” of international law and a serious threat to the safety of civilians.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs similarly condemned the assaults, emphasizing support for Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its sovereignty and security.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, endorsing all measures taken to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

In Japan, the embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a statement condemning the repeated attacks, asserting that assaults on civilians “cannot be tolerated” under any circumstances.

The international community continues to evaluate the implications of the ongoing conflict as the situation evolves.
