Nollywood veteran Yemi Solade has stirred controversy by stating that the late Kamal Adebayo, known as Sir Kay, was not a skilled actor. Solade made these remarks during a recent episode of the podcast “Curiosity Made Me Asked,” hosted by social media personality Isbae U.

Sir Kay, who passed away in December 2022, was not only a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry but also the father of Isbae U. His performances often included playing characters with unique slang and tough-guy personas.

During the podcast, Solade addressed the topic of film production, saying, “I have chosen not to produce.” In response, Isbae U suggested that Solade’s reluctance to produce films stems from a fear of taking risks. Solade countered, questioning why he should take risks with his life.

The conversation took a more personal turn when Isbae U remarked on the risks that others take by casting Solade in their films. Solade responded, “I don’t have that liver,” suggesting he is not inclined to engage in risky ventures. He then challenged Isbae U about the nature of his father’s acting career, implying that Sir Kay’s roles lacked depth and commercial viability.

Isbae U defended his father, insisting that Sir Kay was a talented actor. However, Solade rebutted, stating, “No, no, he was not a good actor but he acted,” emphasizing his belief that Sir Kay’s capabilities were limited.

The discussion concluded with Isbae U expressing frustration, saying, “I can’t fight his battle for him.”

Despite Solade’s critical view, Sir Kay remains celebrated by many within the industry for his contributions and distinctive style.
