10 family members wiped out as bandits attack Plateau community

Ten Family Members Killed in Plateau State Attack

Riyom, Plateau State — Gunmen, suspected to be Fulani militias, killed at least ten members of a family during an attack on Wereng-Camp in Kum village late Saturday night. The assault occurred around 11 p.m. and continued until approximately 1 a.m. Sunday before the assailants retreated into nearby rocks and bushes.

Both Barr Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, and Rwang Tengwom, the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, confirmed the incident. Mwantiri stated that residents reported the attackers positively identified as Fulani bandits, who opened fire as villagers were settling in for the night.

“Intelligence provided by local residents indicates that armed Fulani militias stormed the community, resulting in the deaths of ten family members,” Mwantiri wrote on his Facebook page Sunday morning.

Tengwom also addressed the incident, describing it as one of the deadliest attacks in recent times. He reported that the village head was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries sustained during the attack, which lasted more than three hours.

More information is expected to be released as the situation develops.
