$156m Peter Obi left in Anambra coffers enough to clear alleged N127m debts – Rufai Oseni
Arise News anchor Rufai Oseni stated on Friday that the $156 million left by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is sufficient to address the N127 million in debts attributed to the administration of current Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Oseni made these comments during Arise Television’s “Morning Show.” He referred to the Anambra State government’s recent release of what it described as public debt records from Obi’s tenure as governor.
In response, Peter Obi’s team, represented by Yunusa Tanko, the Interim Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, provided handover documents to counter claims by Soludo regarding loans and other financial liabilities. The document, dated March 17, 2024, outlined Anambra State’s financial position at the conclusion of Obi’s term, indicating a net positive balance exceeding N86 billion.
Oseni remarked that if it is assumed Obi did indeed take out the loans claimed by the state government, the funds remaining in the state’s account could potentially eliminate the entire debt that Governor Soludo alleges exists, unless there are additional undisclosed liabilities.
