2026 Ballon d’Or: He’s favourite – Deco names player to win award
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has declared that Lamine Yamal should be the frontrunner for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. In an interview with RAC1, Deco emphasized Yamal’s significant contributions over the past year, stating, “Lamine should be the favorite for the Ballon d’Or. For me, there are no doubts.”
Deco noted Yamal’s impressive performances while playing for both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. “He has had some decisive moments, even participating in the World Cup while managing an injury. Last season was key,” he added.
During the previous season, Yamal played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona clinch the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles. At just 19 years old, he also contributed to Spain’s victory in the 2026 World Cup held in North America. His achievements have earned him a spot on the 30-man nominees’ shortlist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.
