2026 Ballon d’Or: Lamine Yamal names best two players in the world

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has asserted that he and Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid are the top players in the world, regardless of outcomes in major tournaments such as the World Cup.

In an interview with Movistar, Yamal stated that England’s potential victory in the upcoming 2026 World Cup would not change his assessment. “Even if England had won the World Cup, I’d still say that Mbappé and I are the two best players in the world,” he said.

Yamal elaborated on his views regarding the Ballon d’Or, explaining that it is not awarded based solely on team victories. “The Ballon d’Or isn’t about who wins; it’s for the best player. It’s a different concept,” he noted.

The young winger also suggested that he has an advantage over Mbappé in terms of individual achievements. “Mbappé plays for Real Madrid and I play for Barça, so we have a direct rivalry… and I’ve beaten him in terms of trophies,” Yamal said. He expressed confidence in his own candidacy, stating, “I think there could be Mbappé and me as best player in the world, and this year, I believe I deserve it.”
