2026 Ballon d’Or: Yamal reveals six players that could win instead of him

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Discusses 2026 Ballon d’Or Prospects

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal acknowledged that several players may have an edge over him in the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. In a recent interview with Guardian Sports, the 19-year-old expressed concerns that his age could influence voters’ perceptions.

Yamal suggested that many might believe he has ample time to secure the prestigious award in the future, which could affect their voting decisions. “I think, being totally honest, there is one thing that people—I don’t know if they are going to change—but I think people think that, as Lamine is 19 years old and Lamine is very good, he is going to win at some point,” he said.

He cited several notable players, including Kylian Mbappé, Fabian Ruiz, Rodri, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Lionel Messi, and Harry Kane, as contenders who might be favored before him. Yamal concluded his remarks by acknowledging the perception that he has time on his side, stating, “They think that I will always be there and that I will win eventually.”
