2026 FIBA WWC: D’Tigress fall to South Korea in opening game


Nigeria’s D’Tigress began their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a 99-81 defeat to South Korea in Berlin on Friday.

Under the guidance of coach Rena Wakama, Nigeria started the game positively but ended the first quarter trailing 26-22. The African champions remained competitive throughout the second quarter, entering halftime just three points behind at 48-45.

After the break, South Korea extended their lead, taking a 68-62 advantage into the final quarter. D’Tigress struggled to close the gap in the closing minutes, allowing South Korea to secure an 18-point victory.

Looking ahead, Nigeria is set to face Hungary on Saturday, aiming to rebound from their opening match loss and regain momentum in the tournament.
