2026 U-20 WWC: England underrated Falconets -Aduku

Falconets Advance to Quarterfinals with Victory Over England

Moses Aduku, head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s soccer team, the Falconets, claimed that England underestimated his players during their matchup in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets secured a decisive 3-0 victory against the Young Lionesses, earning a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will face either Poland or Colombia. Goals from Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei, and substitute Mary Mamudu contributed to the commanding win. Additionally, team captain Christianah Uzoma stopped a penalty kick, preventing England from scoring.

Aduku noted that his team elevated their performance, surprising their opponents. “The English team is a very good side and I think they underrated us; they never believed that we could play up to this level. But I said after the group stage that the World Cup is just starting,” he told FIFA.

Looking ahead to the quarterfinal match, Aduku emphasized the importance of maintaining focus. “I told the players, this game is gone; let’s have a short celebration because we have the next game to play. So let’s focus on the next one,” he stated.
