2026 U-20 WWC: Falconets bow out after slim defeat to Colombia

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national soccer team, known as the Falconets, were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Sunday in Lodz.
Under the guidance of coach Moses Aduku, the Falconets were the more aggressive team in the first half, with Janet Akekoromowei coming close to scoring by hitting the crossbar. Tumininu Adeshina also tested Colombian goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo, forcing her into a save.
The second half saw Nigeria maintain pressure on the Colombian defense. However, the dynamics of the match changed dramatically in the 77th minute when Kafayat Mafisere received a red card, leaving Nigeria with 10 players.
Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, Colombia secured the victory with a goal from Valerin Loboa during stoppage time.
