Adebutu Announces Intent to Run for Ogun Governorship in 2027

Hon. (Dr.) Oladipupo Adebutu, the 2023 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has officially declared his intention to contest for the state’s top position once more in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to Ogun State PDP Chairman and transmitted through the party’s local chairman in Odogbolu, Adebutu expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their continued support. This letter was shared with journalists on Friday by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya.
In his letter, Adebutu emphasized the importance of unity within the party as it gears up for the upcoming electoral cycle. “I wish to formally notify the leadership of our great party of my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Ogun State under the platform of the PDP in the 2027 general elections,” he wrote.
He clarified that his decision stems from a commitment to the party’s ideals and a desire to provide purpose-driven leadership for the people of Ogun State.
Having previously represented the PDP in the 2023 gubernatorial race, Adebutu reiterated his commitment to enhancing the party’s structures statewide. He believes his extensive experience in the party positions him well for future challenges.
Identifying himself as a “law-abiding citizen and loyal party member,” he stated that his renewed ambition focuses on leveraging past experiences to deliver effective governance characterized by continuity, inclusiveness, and policies centered on the community.
Adebutu underscored the necessity of internal cohesion among party factions as pivotal for achieving electoral success. “Internal cohesion and collective resolve will determine our success. I remain committed to working with all stakeholders and factions within the party to achieve our shared goal,” he noted.
He further assured party members of his dedication to fostering collaboration and inclusivity within the PDP, expressing optimism that the party would emerge stronger as it approaches the 2027 elections.
