2027: NDC slams Tinubu, APC over ₦1bn worth of Prado SUVs for youth leaders

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the announcement by National Youth Leader Dayo Israel regarding the distribution of new 2026 Toyota Prado SUVs to select youth leaders for election mobilization.

In a statement, the NDC claimed that the seven vehicles highlighted in a video posted by Israel carry a combined value of approximately ₦1.015 billion. The party accused the ruling APC of misusing taxpayers’ money while many Nigerians face economic struggles.

“The average cost of a brand-new 2026 Toyota Prado is ₦145 million. In this video, we counted seven such vehicles, and the number could be even higher,” the NDC stated. “The total cost of these seven vehicles alone amounts to ₦1,015 million.”

The NDC also expressed discontent with the government’s economic policies, arguing that while leaders enjoy extravagant benefits, ordinary citizens are being asked to endure increasing hardships. They remarked that the current administration under President Bola Tinubu is demonstrating what they describe as wasteful spending.

“While the rudderless and clueless administration of President Bola Tinubu has been asking Nigerians to endure the pains of its unjust reforms, this is how taxpayers’ money is being spent,” the NDC stated. “The APC-led administration is funding the lavish lifestyles of politicians while ordinary Nigerians wallow in poverty.”

Calling for a decisive change in the upcoming 2027 general elections, the NDC urged citizens to vote against the ruling party, framing this action as a civic responsibility. “We owe Nigerians and future generations the duty to remove the damaging administration of President Bola Tinubu from power,” the party emphasized.

The NDC also promoted its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, pledging his commitment to reducing the cost of governance. “Our presidential candidate is strongly committed to cutting the cost of governance,” the NDC said, encouraging voters to support Obi in the pursuit of “a new Nigeria for all, and not for a corrupt few.”

In the video posted by Israel, he expressed gratitude to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her support of the party’s structure and indicated that the APC would prioritize grassroots mobilization leading up to the election. “Today, I presented brand-new 2026 Prado vehicles to my dedicated youth leaders to aid their election mobilization activities,” he stated.

The NDC’s accusations were based on its estimation of the vehicles’ average price and the count of seven SUVs displayed in the video.
