Obi Urges Voter Empowerment Ahead of 2027 Election

PETERSBURGH, Rivers State — Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), asserted on Thursday that Nigerians will not accept any attempts to diminish the significance of their votes in the upcoming 2027 general election. Obi emphasized the necessity for every vote to hold weight during a town hall meeting held in Port Harcourt.
Joined by the party’s vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso, Obi encouraged open dialogue between political leaders and the electorate. He expressed that it is essential for citizens to have their choices acknowledged and respected in the electoral process.
“Our votes this time must count, and whoever doesn’t count it, we will count the person,” Obi stated.
During his address, Obi underscored the discontent among Nigerians with the current political climate, insisting that those seeking political office should engage directly with the populace. “We’ve had enough of this nonsense,” he remarked, inviting aspiring leaders to communicate openly with the public.
Obi and Kwankwaso convened the meeting to listen to citizens’ concerns and facilitate a direct exchange of ideas. “We want to listen to you and answer your questions,” Obi remarked.
Further reinforcing his commitment to transparency and accessibility, Obi declared that leadership should not be left to others. “Leadership cannot be outsourced. If you want to lead, you have to talk to the people,” he said.
If elected, Obi promised to maintain consistent communication with the public, committing to connecting with Nigerians on a daily and monthly basis. “As your chief servant, I will be speaking to Nigerians daily and monthly. Every Nigerian will have an opportunity to know who I am,” he stated.
These assertions come as political parties intensify their preparations and grassroots outreach in anticipation of the 2027 general election.
