2027: Tinubu will harvest more votes in Southeast – Umahi

Minister Predicts APC Gains in South-East for 2027 Presidential Election

Minister of Works Dave Umahi has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will achieve notable improvements in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election. He stated that President Bola Tinubu will receive significantly increased support in the region compared to the last election.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Umahi discussed the APC’s prospects for enhancing its performance in the area, which has traditionally been a challenging region for the party.

“I will not specify whether we will win all five states in the South-East, but I am certain that the President is going to gather substantial votes from the region,” Umahi said. “It can never be the same as it was before.”

When pressed on the potential number of states the APC could secure, Umahi indicated that he expects the party to win all five states in the South-East. “My faith tells me we’ll win the five states,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Umahi downplayed concerns regarding Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that he does not pose a significant threat to either Tinubu or the APC in the forthcoming election.

He noted that Obi is not the only candidate from the South-East, citing multiple challengers including those from the Labour Party and other parties, which he described as contributing to a competitive landscape.

“As far as I am concerned, Peter Obi is not a threat,” Umahi stated.

The minister’s remarks come as political parties and presidential candidates ramp up their preparations for the 2027 general election, with the South-East expected to play a crucial role in the electoral contest.
