2027 will be Atiku’s easiest election; hungry Nigerians will vote for him — Shaibu

Phrank Shaibu, a communications adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, asserted that the upcoming 2027 presidential election will present a favorable opportunity for Atiku, suggesting that widespread economic hardship among Nigerians will drive voters to support him.
In an interview on the Mic On Podcast, Shaibu explained that he believes Atiku will attract additional support from citizens dissatisfied with the economic situation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He referred to the results of the 2023 presidential election, where Atiku received 29 percent of the votes despite Tinubu’s incumbency and established political networks.
“This pathway is simple; it will be one of the easiest elections for Atiku Abubakar,” Shaibu stated, expressing confidence that economic struggles will significantly influence voter behavior in the upcoming election.
Shaibu emphasized that the growing issues of hunger and poverty will motivate voters to seek relief and support Atiku’s candidacy. “Hungry Nigerians, impoverished Nigerians, who are excited that life will be affordable again, will vote for Atiku massively come January 16,” he remarked.
He maintained that Atiku would primarily receive votes from individuals who feel the current administration has not improved their living conditions. Shaibu also suggested that both President Tinubu and his family members recognize what he characterized as the government’s failures.
“Tinubu is aware himself that he has failed. His wife is aware that he has failed. His son is aware that he has failed. His ministers are aware that he has failed,” Shaibu said.
Additionally, Shaibu criticized the government’s decision to engage thousands of social media influencers to promote its achievements. His comments came in response to remarks by Minister of Works David Umahi, who announced plans to involve 4,000 influencers to showcase the administration’s projects.
“I question why a government that has made a significant impact on its citizens’ lives feels the need to hire so many influencers to demonstrate its achievements,” Shaibu stated. He referenced Umahi’s recent television appearance where the minister discussed hiring influencers to highlight government accomplishments.
“Influencing means you need to make believe. You need to show people. You don’t need to struggle to show what you have done if you have made an impact in the last three and a half years,” he added.
