Troops Neutralize Two Armed Suspects in Plateau State Operation
BARKIN LADI, Plateau State — Troops participating in Operation Enduring Peace killed two armed gunmen during a coordinated ambush in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The engagement occurred around 7:49 p.m. near Doruwa Babuje, following actionable intelligence regarding the movement of suspected criminals in the area.
According to a military statement, the assailants had been perpetrating violent attacks, sexual assaults, and armed robberies against surrounding communities.
When the troops spotted the suspects, they established an ambush, resulting in a gun battle. While two of the armed men were neutralized, others managed to flee into nearby vegetation.
A subsequent search of the area yielded a locally made rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have remained stationed in Marit and Lajam villages to ensure the safety of residents, while ongoing efforts are directed at tracking down and apprehending the remaining suspects.
In a statement, the military emphasized its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the local community to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
