Nigerian Army Defends Against Terrorist Attack in Sokoto State

Nigerian Army troops successfully repelled a terrorist attack and rescued abducted civilians during a recent patrol in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The details of the operation were disclosed in a Thursday post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited information from security sources. The troops, part of the 8 Division Garrison and operating from a Forward Operating Base in Goronyo, were conducting a fighting patrol towards Gorau village when they encountered armed militants around 2:50 a.m. on April 21.

Upon making contact, the soldiers engaged the attackers in a gun battle, ultimately overpowering them and forcing the militants to retreat. In their wake, the soldiers found four victims who had been kidnapped.

Makama reported that preliminary findings indicated the attackers, approximately 20 in number, had previously invaded the village, resulting in the deaths of three residents and leaving three others injured with gunshot wounds.

The injured were promptly evacuated for medical treatment, while the rescued individuals were safely reunited with their families.

In the aftermath of the incident, security sources noted that troops have intensified clearance operations in the region to deter further attacks and restore peace to the community.
