Akwa Ibom: Police apprehend suspected serial kidnapper, recover human remains

Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Suspect Linked to Kidnappings
Uyo, Akwa Ibom State — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old man, Ubong Michael, also known as “Ubong Boy,” in connection with multiple kidnapping incidents in the state.
Upon his arrest, police officials recovered disturbing human remains, including a skull and bones. The discovery occurred during a tactical operation following a tip-off regarding Michael’s return to the area after a period of evasion in nearby Port Harcourt.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, Michael had been on the police’s wanted list for several months. Preliminary investigations suggest he played a significant role in various abductions, including those of individuals identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
A search conducted at the scene yielded additional evidence, including a human skull believed to belong to a victim, two live cartridges, and a dagger. During questioning, Michael reportedly admitted his involvement in the crimes and is currently cooperating with authorities to provide information that could lead to the recovery of more weapons and the capture of other suspects.
Commissioner of Police CP Baba Azare emphasized the Command’s commitment to combating crime in the region, urging potential offenders to refrain from illegal activities or face severe legal consequences.
