Borno High Court jails woman over trafficking

Human Trafficker Sentenced to Five Years in Maiduguri
MAIDUGURI, Borno State — Salamatu Saidu has been sentenced to five years in prison for human trafficking by a High Court in Maiduguri. The ruling, delivered by Justice Bukar M. Umar on Monday, follows Saidu’s arraignment on the same day.
According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Saidu, 33, was convicted for fraudulent entry involving two individuals aged 21 and 33 years. The agency noted that her actions violated Section 26(2) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015.
The law defines fraudulent entry as the act of knowingly facilitating the illegal movement of a person into or out of Nigeria through deception, false representation, or unlawful means.
A statement from NAPTIP indicated that the swift legal process reflected the agency’s ongoing commitment to combating human trafficking and related crimes throughout the country.
“This is not the first time NAPTIP has secured convictions in such cases,” the statement emphasized.
