Customs begins final phase of recruitment screening for shortlisted candidates
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has initiated the final phase of its recruitment screening, which includes documentation, physical fitness assessments, and medical evaluations for shortlisted candidates.
NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada announced the commencement of this screening on Thursday, which is taking place at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Gwagwalada, Abuja. The two-week exercise began on Monday and is scheduled to conclude on September 19. It targets candidates applying for the positions of Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant.
Candidates are being screened in alphabetical batches based on their states of origin to minimize congestion and maintain order during the process.
Frank Onyeka, the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs responsible for Human Resource Development, addressed the candidates, emphasizing that the service is assessing both character and professional conduct as part of the evaluation, alongside physical fitness.
Onyeka congratulated the candidates on reaching this stage and encouraged them to adhere to the guidelines throughout the screening. “Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline, and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the service,” he stated. He added that the NCS is collaborating with the Customs Police and other relevant agencies to uphold the integrity of the recruitment process.
Dow Gaura, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, noted that the implementation of administrative innovations and inter-agency partnerships have enhanced the efficiency of the recruitment exercise. He affirmed that the entire process has been smooth and free from complications.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the screening for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) cadre finished on Thursday; evaluations for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19.
On August 4, the NCS announced the results of its 2024/2025 recruitment cycle, revealing a final list of 3,852 successful candidates from a pool of 573,680 applicants. The selections include 1,275 candidates for the Superintendent Cadre, 367 for the Inspectorate Cadre, and 2,210 for the Customs Assistant Cadre.
