Mourners ambushed in Benue, three Killed, two abducted

Three Killed, Two Abducted in Benue State Attack

Armed assailants attacked a group of mourners Saturday night in the Sati-Ikov Council Ward of Ushongo Local Government Area, resulting in three fatalities and two abductions.

According to local sources, the victims were ambushed while returning from a burial near their community. One source confirmed the attack, stating that three mourners were killed and two others, identified as Aondongu Amos and Mrs. Arinze, were taken captive.

Hon. Simon Gabo, the representative for Ushongo Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident and voiced concern over the escalating violence from armed groups in the region. He reported being informed of the attack early Sunday morning.

The deceased were named as Bem Msughter, Aondo Chia, and Sunday Terwase, who hailed from different communities within the ward. Gabo noted that the area has faced multiple attacks in recent weeks, including another incident two weeks prior that resulted in three deaths.

Gabo alleged that the attackers frequently cross from the neighboring Katsina-Ala Local Government Area to execute their assaults, utilizing the challenging terrain and dense forests to evade capture. He stated that the police have been notified, and security forces have been dispatched to the area.

As of press time, attempts to contact DSP Udeme Edet, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, were unsuccessful.
