Seven Killed in Attack on Benue Border Community

At least seven individuals were confirmed dead following an assault on Channel One, a border settlement in the Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State. The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 27, 2026.

Elder Joseph Anawa, a local leader, reported the incident to journalists in Makurdi, noting that the attackers were suspected Fulani marauders. According to Anawa, the attack took place around 1 p.m. local time. The deceased were identified as Akor Gwakyaa, Msooter Gwakyaa, Aondoungwa Michael, Vershima Michael, Terna Michael, and Msughter Terzungwe. The identity of a seventh victim is not yet known.

Additionally, seven residents sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment in various hospitals in Anyiin town. An eyewitness indicated that the assailants, armed with firearms and traveling on motorcycles, appeared to be based in Shaor, a village previously identified in intelligence reports as a hub for Fulani marauders.

In response to the violence, Anawa urged authorities to implement urgent security measures to prevent further attacks. He called for increased coordinated operations to displace marauders from identified camps and suggested the establishment of joint inter-state security task forces to monitor cross-border movements and secure the region.

Clement Kave, Chairman of Logo LGA, also confirmed the incident, stating that seven people were killed and four others injured. He emphasized the typical pattern of such attacks, where assailants strike and swiftly retreat to their bases.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, indicated that she had not yet received detailed information about the incident.
