Mark-led ADC trying to hijack our party ‘ve failed woefully — Kachikwu

Kachikwu Responds to Court Ruling on Party Conventions

By Olayinka Ajayi

ABUJA — Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, criticized a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja that nullified certain party conventions. He labeled these gatherings as “kangaroo congresses” in his response to the court’s decision.

Kachikwu’s remarks followed Justice Joyce Abdulmalik’s ruling, which addressed the legitimacy of conventions conducted by a faction led by David Mark. The court determined that this group lacked the authority to hold such events, describing their actions as a “stinging rebuke.”

In her judgment, Justice Abdulmalik stated that with a leadership void within the ADC, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), composed of state chairmen, is the rightful body to organize national conventions and congresses. She directed that the Independent National Electoral Commission recognize this committee’s authority.

Kachikwu emphasized that his party is not for sale and expressed confidence that those attempting to undermine it would ultimately fail. He urged party members to remain vigilant, asserting that the struggle is ongoing.

He concluded by reaffirming the ADC’s commitment to participating in the upcoming election, inviting Nigerians seeking genuine change to consider the party as a viable option.
