Tinubu’s campaign council is corruption’s rehabilitation centre – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council, labeling it a “rehabilitation centre” for individuals with unresolved corruption allegations.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC raised concerns about the integrity of the council’s appointments, questioning the status of corruption cases against certain members. “What happened to the corruption cases involving some of those being brought back into the political fold?” Abdullahi asked.
The ADC specifically referenced individuals who have previously faced prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged financial misconduct. Abdullahi urged the government to clarify whether these individuals have been cleared of wrongdoing, and if so, to disclose the details of such clearances.
The opposition party expressed concern that investigations into corruption under Tinubu’s administration have become increasingly opaque, with some individuals seemingly re-emerging in political or official roles without accountability. “Under this government, corruption allegations increasingly appear to have an expiry date,” the ADC stated.
The party also asserted that the upcoming 2027 election would serve as a referendum on Tinubu’s record in office. The ADC accused the administration of exacerbating poverty and the cost-of-living crisis while allowing politically connected individuals to thrive in what it characterized as “obscene opulence.”
“They cannot campaign away the cost of living crisis or the endemic poverty that their bad policies have created,” the ADC remarked.
In a bid to address fuel prices, the party reiterated its call for a targeted, capped, budgeted, and independently audited subsidy on fuel production. “Our proposal is straightforward: every naira must be traceable and every barrel accounted for,” the ADC said.
The party challenged President Tinubu to provide accountability regarding what they describe as wasteful and misguided policies enacted during his tenure.
