Fire Guts Business Plaza in Kano

KANO, Nigeria — A two-storey building functioning as a business plaza was severely damaged by a fire early Wednesday morning.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency’s Public Relations Officer. The fire was reported at approximately 4:01 a.m. by a resident named Chukude, who alerted authorities about a blaze at 20A Airport Road in the Fagge Local Government Area.

Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, along with additional teams from various stations within the metropolis, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the structure, approximately 100 by 100 feet in size, engulfed in flames.

The blaze affected several shops on the ground floor, including two that sold hospital equipment. Multiple fire trucks from different locations, including Kantin Kwari, Bompai, and the central fire station, were deployed in an effort to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Alhaji Sani Anas, Director of the Kano State Fire Service, urged residents to adopt safety precautions to prevent future fire incidents.
