APC adopts Gubio as consensus governorship candidate in Borno

Borno Governor Endorses Mustafa Gubio as APC Governorship Candidate
Maiduguri, Nigeria — Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has officially presented Mustafa Gubio as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The announcement was made during a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja on Thursday.
In a statement issued by Zulum’s spokesman, Dauda Iliya, the governor emphasized that Gubio’s selection was the result of extensive consultations with party stakeholders. Zulum stated that the decision signifies a unified stance within the APC in Borno State.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and unwavering support for both Borno State and the APC, describing the backing as unprecedented. “I would also like to commend the President, who has been instrumental in the emergence of Gubio as the consensus candidate,” Zulum said.
Zulum acknowledged Vice President Shettima’s efforts in bolstering party cohesion in Borno and supporting the consensus candidate. He also thanked the APC leadership, party stakeholders, and residents for their continued support.
Earlier in the week, Zulum publicly endorsed Gubio as his preferred successor, following the procurement of the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the governorship election.
Among those accompanying the governor during the presentation were former Governor Maina Ma’aji Lawan, Deputy Governor Usman Kadafur, APC Deputy National Chairman Bukar Dalori, and several senators, including Mohammed Monguno, Ali Ndume, and Kaka Shehu Lawan. Other attendees included Abdulkarim Lawan, speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, and Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari.
