Prates Defeats Hometown Fighter Della Maddalena in Perth; Eyes Title Shot

Perth, Australia — In a commanding performance, Brazilian welterweight Carlos Prates overwhelmed local favorite Jack Della Maddalena during the main event of UFC Fight Night on Saturday.

Prates gained the upper hand late in the second round with a powerful calf kick that sent Della Maddalena to the canvas. The Brazilian continued his assault in the third round, knocking Della Maddalena down three additional times with a knee strike, a head kick, and another leg kick. The fight was ultimately stopped by the referee.

After the victory, Prates expressed his desire to face the winner of the upcoming welterweight title bout between champion Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry.

“I can punch, I can knee, I can kick … so I’m better, and now I feel like I’m the number one contender,” Prates said. “I can’t wait to see Makhachev and Ian, and then I’m going to fight the winner.”

With this victory, Prates, 32, secured his third consecutive win and improved his professional record to 24-7, including 19 wins by knockout. Della Maddalena, 29, suffered his second straight loss, bringing his record to 18-4, with 12 victories by knockout.

In the co-main event, Australia’s Quillan Salkilld, 26, recorded a first-round technical knockout (TKO) against lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush, improving his record to 12-1.
