Nigerian Navy storms Dayspring Island, destroys militant hideouts

Nigerian Navy Launches Offensive Against Militants in Cross River State
The Nigerian Navy has initiated a significant operation targeting militants and kidnappers along the Calabar–Oron channel in Cross River State. This announcement was made by Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Information for the Navy.
The operation, conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Victory and Forward Operating Base Ibaka, specifically focused on Dayspring Island. This action follows a rise in kidnappings and related criminal activities in the region.
Folorunsho confirmed that the operation led to the dismantling of a hideout associated with a prominent militant known as “Juju.” He noted that a forward security outpost was established at Idung 1, also referred to as Peacock Crossing, to enhance troop operations and maintain control over nearby waterways and creeks.
Furthermore, Navy personnel collaborated with the Nigerian Army’s 13 Brigade, which induced suspected militants to abandon their camps. This coordinated effort secured critical waterways and limited the movement of these criminals. Folorunsho highlighted that the exploitation of the area facilitated the identification and destruction of the militant hideout linked to the suspect “Juju” in the Idung vicinity.
