Soldiers Respond to Communal Conflict in Benue State
Soldiers assigned to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intervened in a renewed communal conflict between the Agbaka and Anyiase communities in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources reported that troops based in Ukpiam were deployed at approximately 12:10 p.m. on May 1 after receiving alerts about escalating tensions between the two groups. Upon their arrival, they found that several houses had been burned down by the attackers, who fled the scene before the soldiers could take action.
The military quickly began pursuing the suspects along their escape routes; however, no arrests were reported at the time of this writing. Authorities have since dispatched additional security personnel to the area to prevent further violence and are actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
Investigation efforts are currently underway, as officials strive to restore peace and stability in the affected communities.
