Man shot, macheted to death during Ogun cult clash

Man Killed in Alleged Cult Clash in Abeokuta

ABUOKUTA, Ogun State — A man identified only as “Stone” was reportedly shot and killed during a violent confrontation between suspected cult groups on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. along Wasimi Ake Road, in the vicinity of Centenary Hall and Lotus Bank, leading toward the Ijemo Agbadu area.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased was a former leader of the Buccaneer cult. Eyewitnesses described hearing gunshots as the rival groups clashed, causing panic among residents. The assailants allegedly fled on foot into nearby streets.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that investigators have launched a thorough inquiry into the incident. He noted that officers from the Oke Itoku Division were dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim with serious gunshot wounds and machete injuries.

“The victim, identified as ‘Stone,’ was discovered lying in a pool of blood,” Babaseyi stated. Emergency services transported him to State Hospital, Ijaiye, where he was pronounced dead. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Babaseyi refuted claims that the violence took place at Ake Palace, where a Yayi Progressive Movement inauguration event was occurring. “This clash was strictly confined to the aforementioned roadway and its adjoining neighborhoods,” he emphasized.

The police have urged the public to remain calm and assured them that a manhunt for those responsible has begun, with detectives actively pursuing credible leads for their apprehension and prosecution.
